Marvel’s new “Special Presentation” The Punisher: One Last Kill leads this week’s streaming release list, alongside the VOD rental debuts of action/horror comedy They Will Kill You, and animated adventure Hoppers.

SERIES

Legends S1

7 May 2026 – Netflix

I missed this one in last week’s roundup, but it definitely looks worth a mention. Starring Tom Burke and Steve Coogan, Legends is a new six-episode British drama series inspired by one of the most remarkable criminal investigations ever conducted. In the early 1990s, Britain faced a heroin crisis as criminal cartels smuggled drugs across Britain’s borders. Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher needed a solution and fast, and surprisingly turned to Her Majesty’s Customs and Excise, the department of the British government traditionally tasked with the collection of revenue from imported goods as well as taxes on locally produced alcohol and tobacco. In a top-secret operation, a small team of Customs employees – just normal men and women plucked from their mundane government jobs – were put through a basic training regime so as to be sent undercover into the criminal underworld. Using newly crafted identities – known in the spy biz as “legends” – they were tasked with uncovering and undermining the illegal and highly dangerous drug smuggling operations.

Good Omens S3

13 May 2026 – Prime Video

It’s impossible to talk about Good Omens without addressing the controversies surrounding creator/showrunner/original author Neil Gaiman. Just about a year after the release of the second season of the fantasy show, Gaiman was hit with a string of sexual assault and abuse allegations from multiple women. I’m not going to unpack all the sordid details here, or Gaiman’s rather self-damning response to it, but they were severe enough that not only did he have to remove himself from several projects, but it was actually unclear whether Good Omens would be back for more. For fans of the show though, who can divorce creator from art, the third and final season went ahead though and now all six episodes will be dropping on Prime Video next week. This one picks up right where season two left off, as the beloved and unlikely duo – angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and demon Crowley (David Tennant) have to go on one last adventure, despite their millennia-long friendship having been fractured ever since Aziraphale returned to Heaven and left Crowley behind on Earth by himself. And now things get very complicated as Aziraphale, as the newly appointed Supreme Archangel, has to oversee the Second Coming, and his plans don’t seem to sit well with the other angels. If only there was a friend he could turn to for some support and guidance?

Off Campus S1

13 May 2026 – Prime Video

If you’re into steamy college romances and ice hockey, then new soap Off Campus could be just the thing for you. Based on author Elle Kennedy’s bestselling book series of the same name, Off Campus follows “an elite ice hockey team, and the women in their lives, as they grapple with love, heartbreak, and self-discovery—forging deep friendships and enduring bonds while navigating the complexities that come with transitioning into adulthood”. Prime has already given the series a second season renewal ahead of its debut, so clearly the streamer like what it saw. The eight-episode first season focuses on an “opposites attract” romance between quiet songwriter, Hannah (Ella Bright), and Briar University’s all-star hockey athlete, Garrett (Belmont Cameli).

MOVIES

Marty, Life is Short

12 May 2026 – Netflix

If you’re a fan of Martin Short – and really, who isn’t? – then you definitely cannot miss Marty, Life is Short, a new feature-length documentary from acclaimed filmmaker Lawrence Kasdan (The Big Chill, Silverado, Raiders of the Lost Ark) on the life of the beloved comedian. Now in his mid-70s, Short has clearly not lost a scene-stealing step, as fans of the incredible Only Murders in the Building can quickly attest. But he also has an indelible legacy of not just iconic roles, but also peers who have endless love for the Canadian-born actor. Using beautiful, intimate, never-before-seen archive footage alongside exclusive interviews with some of the most established and beloved stars, the documentary takes a look at one of the most influential comedians of a generation.

The Punisher: One Last Kill

12 May 2026 – Disney+

Let me tell you something! At this point, it’s pretty undeniable that Jon Bernthal has become the Punisher, making this iconic comic book role his forever. So, it’s only fair then that Bernthal not only finally get a Marvel movie of his own after playing the character on multiple seasons of television, but that he is the one that gets to tell this story. Written and exec produced by Bernthal, The Punisher: One Last Kill is not a theatrical feature release but is billed as a “Marvel Television Special”, which is basically a standalone TV movie for all intents and purposes. Following the events of Daredevil: Born Again, this special follows Bernthal’s Frank Castle as he’s trying to live a peaceful life, away from all the bloodshed and revenge, only to be drawn into an unexpected conflict against his will.

RENTALS/PURCHASES

The following movies have recently become available for digital purchase/rental:

Hoppers

Purchase: Apple TV – R200

Rental: Apple TV – R170

Having only been released a little over two months ago, animated family adventure film Hoppers is currently still playing in cinemas. However, if you’re one of those people that hate crowds but love movies, then you’re in luck as it’s gotten a rather quick VOD release. Boasting the voice talents of Piper Curda, Bobby Moynihan, Jon Hamm, Kathy Najimy, and Dave Franco, Hoppers follows animal-loving college student Mabel, who discovers a new scientific program that allows human consciousness to be “hopped” into lifelike robotic animals, allowing people to learn about and communicate with animals better. When Mabel hops into a robotic beaver though and gets passionate about saving an animal habitat from human destruction, she inadvertently starts a chaotic animal uprising.

They Will Kill You

Purchase: Apple TV – R200

Rental: Apple TV – R170

We got the sequel to Ready or Not just a short while ago, but if you still haven’t had your fill on “Seemingly mild-mannered woman is caught in a building by a satanic cult looking to kill her, only to violently turn the tables on her pursuers” then I’ve got great news for you. Action comedy/horror They Will Kill You stars Zazie Beets as Asia Reeves, an ex-con trying to get her life together who answers a help wanted ad to be a housekeeper in a mysterious New York City high-rise where her younger sister works. As Asia starts to learn about the local community’s startling number of disappearances over the years though, she quickly realizes that something sinister is afoot, and that she needs to get her sister out of there. And that’s when the human sacrifices start, except Asia is no damsel in distress! (Of special mention is that They Will Kill You was actually filmed right here in Cape Town)
