Coming off the launch success of feline cat adventure Stray, and capping a very busy July was powerhouse indie game publisher Annapurna Interactive’s second-ever online Showcase. With it, fans received 25 minutes of new title reveals, updates on existing projects and announcements about new developer partnerships.

Personally, I don’t know that the 2022 Showcase had quite the hype factor as last year’s debut, but then again there were a lot of already announced games that I wanted to hear more about: like literature-based puzzle game Storyteller, and mother-daughter road trip Open Roads (though that one has had a rather bumpy development).

Below you can watch the complete 2022 Showcase, followed by our favourite reveals. All of Annapurna’s games, already released and/or announced, can be found here.

Hindsight

Playable right now is Hindsight, an elegant narrative exploration game from Joel McDonald, the creator of Prune. Available for Nintendo Switch, PC (via Steam) and iOS, Hindsight spans the entirety of a woman’s life, from birth to present day, as she tries to make sense of it all. This one, where shifting viewpoints is a big part of the gameplay, looks ideal for people who enjoyed the tender and emotionally powerful A Memoir Blue, also published by Annapurna.

Forever Ago

Fulfilling any virtual wanderlust you may have is Forever Ago, a narratively-driven and emotionally-charged adventure game coming to PC through Steam. The debut title from German devs Third Shift, Forever Ago follows older man Alfred on a journey north in search of redemption. Players will travel to beautiful places, capture memories with your camera, meet interesting people, and make new friends. You can also watch a featurette on the game’s development here.

The Lost Wild

If you always loved the scary side of Jurassic Park – the terror of being hunted by too-clever Velociraptors and relentless T-Rexes – then do we have a game for you. Developed by Great Ape Games, The Lost Wild is a survival horror adventure about overcoming one of nature’s most formidable forms of life: dinosaurs. There’s no traditional lethal combat in The Lost Wild, as you must run, outmanoeuvre, intimidate, distract and hide, all while exploring overgrown research facilities to uncover the prehistorical wilderness’s core mystery. The Lost Wild is coming to PC through Steam, with consoles to be announced.

Thirsty Suitors

This one we knew about already, but a gameplay overview clip during this year’s Showcase provided a better look at some of the key components of Thirsty Suitors: skateboarding, turn-based sass battles, and cooking. From Outerloop Games, Thirsty Suitors is officially described as “a game about culture, relationships, family pressures, and expressing oneself.” Unofficially, it looks like Scott Pilgrim vs. the World meets the second-generation SEA immigrant experience. We also now have a confirmed, if broad, release window for the game. Thirsty Suitors is launching into Game Pass on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, as well as Steam, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch in 2023.

Finally, here are some other key announcements from the Annapurna Interactive 2022 Showcase:

  • Both the massively acclaimed What Remains of Edith Finch and Outer Wilds are getting next-gen ports for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Players who already own the games on Xbox One or PlayStation 4 will receive the updated version for free.
  • Already out for mobile, PC and PS, open world mythic adventure The Pathless will launch on Xbox and Switch this winter.
  • Previously exclusive to PS and PC, “nested” puzzle game Maquette will arrive on Xbox, Game Pass, and Switch this winter.
  • Stylish sci-fi platformer Solar Ash will premiere on Steam on 6 December 2022, and join Xbox Game Pass during the Northern Hemisphere winter.
