Scream 7 slashes its way onto the streaming releases this week via VOD rental, while we also get star-studded sci-fi series The Boroughs, the Jack Ryan feature-film finale Ghost War, and more!

SERIES

Berlin and the Lady with an Ermine

15 May 2026 – Netflix

Despite how much absolutely loved Money Heist, I have really not kept up with the various spinoffs and prequels that’s been released since the original blockbuster Spanish series wrapped up. As such, I have no idea who or what a “Lady with an Ermine” is or why fan-favourite character Berlin is involved with here. I’m going to guess it has to do with stealing though. A follow-up to the 2021 prequel series, this one sees “Berlin and Damián bring the gang together, this time in Seville, to pull off a master heist: pretending to steal the Lady with an Ermine. Pretending? Why? Because their real target is the Duke of Málaga and his wife, a couple who think they can blackmail Berlin. What they don’t expect is that their challenge will awaken Berlin’s darkest side — and his thirst for revenge.”

Rivals S2

15 May 2026 – Disney+

Fans of 1980s set feuds between the wealthy elite in a fictitious British county, rejoice! Rivals is back! The ensemble comedy-drama returns today for a second season today as British nobleman and MP Rupert Campbell-Black (Alex Hassell) continues his heated rivalry (not that kind of heated rivalry!) with married-into-old-money TV mogul Lord Tony Baddingham (David Tenannt). Season one saw the pair’s contentious battle spill out all over Rutshire county, pulling in all their snooty friends and colleagues. The second season has received exceedingly glowing reviews from critics, so fans are in for a treat,

Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed S1

20 May 2026 – Apple TV+

There’s a 100% foolproof way to get me to watch any new TV series or movie: Just put Tatiana Maslany in it. I’ve been a gigantic fan of the Canadian actress since her jaw-dropping multi-role breakout in Orphan Black and even when the projects she’s in leaves something to be desired, she never drops the ball. And new black comedy series Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed looks to be the type of work that will really let her sink her formidable acting teeth in. Maslany plays Paula, a new divorced mom trying to keep afloat amid both a custody battle and a mid-life identity crisis. However, when she becomes convinced that she’s witnessed a horrible crime and decides to pursue her own investigation, she finds herself rapidly falling down a rabbit hole of murder, blackmail, and weekend soccer games with the kids.

The Boroughs S1

21 May 2026 – Netflix

I sat racking my brain about this earlier, but could it really be that the last Hollywood sci-fi project led by a bunch of older folks was 1985’s Cocoon? (which, by the way, starred actors way younger than you may have remembered!) This is definitely not a prolific genre, which is why The Boroughs is such a welcome entry. Well, that and the absolutely stacked cast of celebrated veterans including Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, Alfre Woodard, Bill Pullman, Clarke Peters, and Denis O’Hare. The new project from showrunners Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews (The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance) sees Molina starring as Sam, the latest resident at the idyllic titular retirement community in sun-drenched New Mexico. But while all the other retirees find The Boroughs to be a paradise, grieving widower Sam struggles to fit in. This is exacerbated exponentially though when he seemingly has a terrifying encounter that reveals something monstrous stalking the perfectly manicured cul-de-sacs. Dismissed by the people in charge as just another confused old man, Sam bands together a group of fellow misfits and outcasts who join him on his quest to uncover The Boroughs’ dark secret.

MOVIES

Is This Thing On?

20 May 2026 – Disney+

Is This Thing On? is Oscar-winner Bradley Cooper’s third directorial effort, but unlike A Star is Born and Maestro he’s only staying behind the camera for this one. The talented multi-hyphenate is still pulling double duty though as he co-wrote the script for this comedy drama with actual lead Will Arnett – the film is actually loosely based on the life of real-life British comedian John Bishop who was given a story credit. Arnett stars with Laura Dern as Alex and Tess, a middle-aged New York couple whose relationship is teetering on the brink of divorce. As their marriage falls apart around them, and they have to navigate the realities of co-parenting and complicated family issues, Alex finds himself seeking new purpose in an unexpected place: the New York standup comedy scene. Is This Thing On? debuted at the New York Film Festival late last year where it received plenty of critical praise for Arnett and Dern’s performances as well as Cooper’s directing.

Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Ghost War

20 May 2026 – Prime Video

I’ll be honest: Despite the fact that I relatively enjoyed the four seasons of Jack Ryan that we got, I completely forgot that Prime Video had one last hurrah planned for John Krasinki’s on-screen version of Tom Clancy’s iconic literary character. Following on from the events of the fourth season, this feature film finale – co-written by Krasinski himself and helmed by acclaimed TV director Andrew Bernstein (The Outside, Foundation, Ozark) – sees Ryan being pulled back into the world of espionage and conspiracy once again when an international covert mission uncovers a global conspiracy. Don’t you just hate it when that happens? Playing out in real-time, Ghost War sees Jack reunites with former CIA boss James Greer (Wendell Pierce) and wily veteran operator Mike November (Michael Kelly) as they pit their combined experience against an enemy who knows their every move. Helping to tip the odds in their favour is franchise newcomer Emma Marlowe (Sienna Miller), a razor-sharp MI6 officer who also gets caught up in this high-stakes mission. (Also, PS: this isn’t the last entry in this franchise as a spinoff feature film focusing on Michael Peña’s CIA operative Ding Chavez is also still in development)

RENTALS/PURCHASES

The following movies have recently become available for digital purchase/rental:

Scream 7

Purchase: Apple TV – R150

Rental: Apple TV – R45

Do you like scary movies? Well, then chances are you probably caught Scream 7 when it hit cinemas earlier this year. However, if you missed it on the big screen, you could now catch the latest entry in the long-running slasher series in the comfort of your home. Just don’t answer any calls from gravelly voiced mystery men late at night. After a whole lot of behind-the-scenes drama following Scream IV that saw the director’s chair occupant swapped twice and leads Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega being fired and resigning, respectively, Scream 7 switched its focus from the New York-based younger cast introduced in the franchise revival. Instead, Neve Campbell’s original franchise heroine Sydney Prescott is back in the limelight again, as we pick up with her in Pine Grove, Indiana, where she’s put behind her bloody past in Woodsboro and built a great life for herself. She’s married to local police chief Mark Evans (Joel McHale) and now has a teenage daughter of her own (Isabel May), named after her killed former best friend Tatum Riley. However, Sydney’s idyllic new life is interrupted when the Ghostface killer returns once more, this time targeting the young Tatum and her friends. The twist though is that this Ghostface is claiming to be none other than Stu Macher, one of the two original killers that Sydney had seemingly killed 30 years ago.

Wardriver

Purchase: Apple TV – R150

Rental: Apple TV – R45

Before you embarrass yourself like I did, let me help you out. The title to this new movie is pronounced War-Driver and not Ward-River. And no, this is not some kind of Mad Max spinoff. Dane DeHaan stars in this action thriller as Cole, a hacker who only steals from banks and not people, limiting his exposure. However, when the banks respond with violence, Cole finds himself desperate and on the run. His only hope may lie with Sasha Calle’s Sarah, a woman inadvertently caught up in the middle whose actions could either save or doom them both.
