This month, Disney+ is going back to where it all began for the House of Mouse… well, in terms of its standout new offerings. We’re talking animation, with two cartoon series (one new; one returning after a very long time) heading to home screens to heat up TV time.

Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire (Anthology Series)

Fans of Star War: Visions will probably want to check out another action-packed sci-fi anthology series. Made by animators across Africa, Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire is a homegrown Afrofuturist effort that draws on the continent’s diverse histories and cultures to present stories of advanced technology, aliens, spirits, and monsters. The series consists of 10 animated short films made in the likes of South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda, Zimbabwe and Egypt; and features the voices of Florence Kasumba, Pearl Thusi, Hakeem Kae-Kazim, Nasty C and more.

Watch all 10 animated shorts from 5 July.

Futurama (Series)

Good news, everyone! From 24 July you can watch all 10 episodes of Hulu’s long-awaited Futurama revival. There’s only a gap of ten years between Season 10 and 11 of this animated sci-fi comedy, which will continue the misadventures of 20th Century pizza delivery boy Philip J. Fry, who finds himself one thousand years into the future, working at inept intergalactic courier company Planet Express.

In Season 11, Futurama’s signature satirical lens will be pointed at pandemics, bitcoin, cancel culture, and streaming TV. P.S. All members of the original voice cast have returned for this outing, which is being marketed as accessible for long-time fans and new viewers alike.

The Secrets of Hillsong (Documentary series)

For something considerably more serious (and shocking), Disney+ in South Africa is streaming FX’s The Secrets of Hillsong, a four-part documentary series based on the explosive reporting on the megachurch’s scandals by Vanity Fair. The Secrets of Hillsong goes beyond the sensational headlines to examine the church’s long pattern of covering up scandals to protect itself. This includes incidents involving money laundering, infidelity, sexual misconduct, and more. The documentary features the first interviews with former pastors Carl and Laura Lentz since being outed from the church.

All episodes of The Secrets of Hillsong are available from 12 July.
