It’s a clash of irreverent action movies this week at the South African box office. In addition to these two stunt fests, there’s a new animated movie release as well as a rebellious Bollywood actioner, a recording of the Royal Ballet performing Swan Lake, and a fresh batch of episodes of Faith-based The Chosen screening on the big screen.


Boy Kills World is an over-the-top, ultra-violent revenge tale that is officially described as “a dystopian fever dream.” Boy (Bill Skarsgård), a deaf mute with a vibrant imagination, is trained by a mysterious shaman to become an instrument of death after his family is murdered by by Hilda Van Der Koy (Famke Janssen), the deranged matriarch of a corrupt post-apocalyptic dynasty. The ensemble cast also includes Michelle Dockery, Andrew Koji, and Sharlto Copley, while Archer’s H. Jon Benjamin is Boy’s inner voice.


In action comedy The Fall Guy, Colt Seavers (Ryan Gosling) is a battered stuntman who is forced to double for missing film star Tom Ryder (Aaron Taylor-Johnson). At the same time, Colt agrees to find Tom, in order to win back film director Jody Moreno (Emily Blunt), his ex. Inspired by the 1980s TV series of the same name, The Fall Guy also stars Winston Duke, Stephanie Hsu and Hannah Waddingham. Stuntman-turned-filmmaker David Leitch (Bullet Train, Deadpool 2, Atomic Blonde and Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw) directs this IMAX release.


10 Lives is a new animated comedy out of the UK about Beckett, the pampered and selfish cat who takes for granted the life he leads with kind-hearted Rose. When Beckett carelessly loses his ninth life, he pleads with the Gatekeeper to return to Earth.
