It’s a tale of two soldiers this week at South African cinemas, with two against-the-odds survival epics facing off. And that’s it. Nothing else.

Time to find three hours in the coming days because The Odyssey is here. Following the success of Oppenheimer and his Batman trilogy, Oscar-winning filmmaker Christopher Nolan tackles Homer’s epic poem in this grand adventure combining Ancient Greek mythology and an all-star cast. In a perilous journey spanning decades, wits-driven ruler and warrior Odysseus (Matt Damon) struggles to return to his home island of Ithaca following the Trojan War. The trek pits him against gods, monsters and various other threats. In his absence, Odysseus’s wife Penelope (Anne Hathaway) and son Telemachus (Tom Holland) are under siege by mercenary suitors, including Robert Pattinson’s Antinous. Also starring Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya, Charlize Theron and many more.

The Odyssey is the first movie to be shot entirely on IMAX’s 70 mm film cameras, so make sure to watch it on the biggest screen possible. Expect our review soon.

Lucky Strike is a throwback-style (read: unsubtle!) World War II action adventure, inspired by real-life events. In December 1944, during the Battle of the Bulge, American soldier John Castle (Scott Eastwood) is the wounded lone survivor when his entire military unit is killed in a Nazi ambush. With a field radio nicknamed “Lassie” – a new technology – and a pack of Lucky Strike cigarettes, Castle travels across miles of enemy territory, evading Panzer squads and SS patrols to reach safety. Also with Colin Hanks.
