What’s new to Disney+ in April? Well, in addition to ongoing weekly episode drops of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, home viewers have a selection of shows, documentaries and movies to keep them occupied as autumn sets in. Oh, and a new Star Wars animated series to continue the exploits of a fan-favourite antihero.

Secrets of the Bees (Documentary Series)
As South Africans gear up for some Easter holiday downtime, Disney+ and National Geographic are delivering a two-part series focused on Nature’s arguably hardest, and most fascinating, workers. In Secrets of the Bees, explorer Bertie Gregory delves into the extraordinary lives of bees, which are among the planet’s most important animals, thanks to their over 20,000 species pollinating one-third of the world’s food. The documentary was shot over three years with special cameras, and the backing of James Cameron.

Pizza Movie (Film)
Will the Stranger Things kids have a career after the show? Well, Gaten Matarazzo (AKA Dustin) pops up in R-rated stoner comedy Pizza Movie. Two college roommates find an experimental drug in their dorm room and take it, only to realise that the mind-bending high and hallucinations can only be counteracted with pizza. However, in their current state, a two-floor journey to the lobby to collect their snack becomes a fraught odyssey.

Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord (Animated Series)
Get your May the Fourth kicks early with animated series Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord from brand custodian Dave Filoni. Set after the events of The Clone Wars, former Sith lord and Syndicate head Maul plots to rebuild his crime organisation while evading the Empire. Then he meets a disillusioned young Twi’lek Jedi hiding from Order 66, and sees in her the potential for revenge against his former Master. if she will become his Apprentice.
The 10-episode series is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ on 6 April, with two episodes released each week until 4 May.
The Testaments (Series)
Whoops, we actually got the release date of this one wrong, thinking it premiered last month. Let’s correct that now.
Dystopian coming-of-age drama The Testaments returns viewers to the world of The Handmaid’s Tale. Based on Margaret Atwood’s award-winning 2019 novel, the series is set decades after the events of the original Handmaid’s book and series, and zooms in on Aunt Lydia’s preparatory school for future Gilead wives. In this environment, dutiful Agnes (One Battle After Another’s Chase Infiniti) and truth-seeking Daisy (Lucy Halliday) start to question the status quo and explore their own identities.

Malcom in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair (Miniseries)
It’s not just Noughties sitcom Scrubs enjoying a revival right now. Dysfunctional family focused Malcom in the Middle is returning this month to Disney+ too, in the form of a four-part reunion special. After shielding himself and his daughter from his family for over a decade, Malcolm (Frankie Muniz) is dragged back into their orbit when Hal (Bryan Cranston) and Lois (Jane Kaczmarek) demand his presence at their 40th anniversary party. The rest of the family is back too, though Erik Per Sullivan has been replaced by Caleb Ellsworth-Clark as Dewey.
Malcom in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair premieres on 10 April with all four episodes.
