In my first video on game narrative – specifically explained for gaming newcomers and onlookers, like my wife – I broke down the four types of narratives found in video games, and delved into the concept of the embedded narrative that players follow.

In this second series entry, I look at the unique ability of video games to let players influence the narrative outcome. This is a case of Emergent Narrative, or Procedural Narrative. Using Until Dawn and Dishonored as examples, we explore how gameplay and player choice affects the storyline, changing it for better or worse.
