A new Shane Black action movie with Mark Wahlberg/Lakeith Stanfield, Glen Powell’s new sports comedy series Chad Powers, and the modern return of classic anime Cat’s Eye all headline this week’s list of streaming releases.
SERIES
Cat’s Eye S1
26 September 2025 – Disney+
We don’t generally feature new anime releases on here, but Cat’s Eye is not your average anime series. Created by the legendary Tsukasa Hojo (City Hunter) and originally published in manga mainstay Weekly Shōnen Jump from 1981 to 1985, Cat’s Eye has been a huge hit from its debut. The adventures of the sisters Hitomi, Rui, and Ai Kisugi – art thieves out to reacquire all the works belonging to their missing father – has already been adapted into an anime series, two live-action films, and live-action French TV series, not to mention getting a crossover with fellow classic anime Lupin III. And now, thanks to Hulu, Cat’s Eye is back with a brand-new anime adaptation that looks so damn retro that I can’t help but love it already!
Chad Powers S1
30 September 2025 – Disney+
If you were a fan of Glen Powell’s many disguised characters in last year’s Hit Man, then you’re probably going to want to check out Chad Powers. The upcoming sports comedy series sees Powell star as Russ Holiday, an erstwhile star NFL quarterback who saw his career blow in embarrassment thanks to his on-field showboating. Out of options on how to kickstart his career, Russ decides to try something drastic: “Do a Mrs. Doubtfire… but with football”. Reinventing himself as the oddball Chad Powers, Russ decides to work his way back into professional football from the ground up. As long as nobody can uncover his secret.
MOVIES
All of You
26 September 2025 – Apple TV+
If you only know Brett Goldstein as the hot-headed and foul-mouthed Roy Kent from Ted Lasso, then you’re probably in for a bit of a surprise with All of You. Co-written by Goldstein and Emmy Award winner William Bridges (Black Mirror), who also directs, this decades-spanning romantic drama follows Simon (Goldstein) and Emma (Imogen Poots), best friends since college who have always kept things platonic despite years of unspoken feelings between them. When Emma takes a test that manages to find her soulmate – which isn’t Simon – it triggers both to think back on the years they drifted into and out of each other’s lives, and to contemplate on the life together that they missed out on. Word from the film fest circuit where All of You premiered late last year is that you definitely need to keep the tissues handy thanks to devastating performances from Goldstein and Poots.
Mantis
26 September 2025 – Netflix
Netflix’s continues to be an amazing source of South Korean entertainment, and the latest addition to that library is Mantis. Starring Squid Game breakout Im Si-Wan, this action thriller follows Mantis (Im), a top assassin known for his distinctive dual weapons of choice. When Mantis returns from a long vacation, he finds the world of hired killers in chaos as the order that’s controlled it seemingly fell apart. In the ensuing mess, MJae-yi, his fellow trainee and rival, and Dok-go, a retired legendary killer, and realizes they are all competing for the top spot of the new number one assassin in the world.
Play Dirty
1 October 2025 – Prime Video
After creating the Lethal Weapon franchise, writing The Last Boy Scout and The Long Kiss Good Night, and also directing the likes of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and The Nice Guys, I think it’s fair to say that Shane Black is the master of the buddy action movie genre. Which is why it’s very surprising that the latest addition to his filmography – Play Dirty – has flown under the radar a bit, especially since it’s based on Richard Stark’s wildly popular Parker novels. Play Dirty stars Mark Wahlberg as professional thief Parker (previously played on-screen by Jason Statham in unrelated 2013 film Parker), who teams up with fellow literary character Grofield (Lakeith Stanfield) after a deadly run-in with another crook (Rosa Salazar) sees them set out for the biggest score of their lives: Robbing an entire country. Keegan-Michael Key, Chukwudi Iwuji, Nat Wolff, Thomas Janem and Tony Shalhoub co-star.
A Nice Indian Boy
2 October 2025 – Showmax
With October being Pride Month, you can expect a whole lot of great LGBTQ positive content, and Showmax is kicking things off with heartfelt romcom A Nice Indian Boy. Karan Soni (Deadpool) stars as Naveen who has an unexpected meet-cute with Jay (Jonathan Groff), a white orphan who raised by an Indian couple. As Naveen and Jay’s relationship blossoms into something serious, it forces to Naveen to bring Jay home to meet his very traditional Indian family. Things get even more complicated when Nabeen and Jay decide to tie the knot in a big lavish wedding.
