Fun fact: The United States of America leads the world in highest number of serial killers per country. By a LOT! If you were to add up the reported cases of the next 15 countries, the total would still only be around 40% of that of the USA. All of this is to say that while female serial killers are exceedingly rare, the likelihood of one in the USA is significantly higher. And that’s what Furious deals. A new 8-episode crime drama from New Girl creator Elizabeth Meriweather, the show was inspired by the hit 1987 film Black Widow and stars Emmy Rossum as Alice Black, an FBI Agent on the hunt for a mysterious and calculating female serial killer (Lola Petticrew). The deeper Alice gets into this investigation though, the more she finds her life intertwining with that of her murderous prey, blurring the line between right and wrong.
The Bombing of Pan Am 103

It’s not even been a year since Sky TV series Lockerbie: A Search for Truth debuted, but now Netflix is taking a crack at the dramatic and historic events that unfolded 30 years ago. The small town of Locker, Scotland was thrust into the global spotlight on 21 December 1988, when Pan Am Flight 103, on a scheduled flight from Frankfurt to Denver, was destroyed by a bomb while flying overhead, raining death and debris on residential homes. All 243 passengers and 16 crew aboard, as well as 11 unfortunate souls whose homes were in the fiery path, were killed, making it the deadliest terror attack in the history of the United Kingdom. The Bombing of Pan Am is a star-studded new six-part series that recaps the grim events of that night, and the largest murder investigation in Scottish history that followed it.

I HAVE THE POWER!… to watch Masters of the Universe at home! Yes, Amazon MGM pulled a fast one on us earlier this week as with barely two days’ notice, it pushed up the streaming release date of their recent live-action adaptation of the classic 1980s He-Man cartoon. Amazon MGM had been very vocal early on that they are playing the long game with this movie, using it to introduce a new generation to the adventures of He-Man and hoping to kick off a franchise that will drive subscribers to Prime Video. To that end, the studio had already greenlit a sequel despite the fact the film bombed huge at the box office. Said bombing though, is probably why the streaming date has been moved up, and thus you can now watch Masters of the Universe in the comfort of your old childhood pajamas (if they still fit). Directed by Travis Knight (Bumblebee, Kubo and the Two Strings), this sword-and-sorcery adventure stars Nicholas Galitzine as Adam, the prince of the magical world of Eternia, who was exiled to Earth years before when the evil Skeletor killed his parents and seized power. Having lost the magical Sword of Power bestowed to him for safekeeping before being flung from Eternia, Adam has been searching ever since for a way to return home, telling all who will listen about the colourful characters and creatures, despite their skepticism. When a vicious monster attacks him just moments after finally finding the sword, and childhood warrior friend Teela shows up to save him, Adam realizes his time has come to retake his homeworld and birthright. Sam gave the film 6/10 in his review, but older nostalgic fans will probably get more of a kick out of how well the film leans into its goofy Saturday morning cartoon premise. Either way, while it is missing a little something, it is bright and colourful and very fun with a game cast. Definitely worth checking out on Prime (especially if you want to see more).
The Dink

While padel seems to be the sports craze that most recently swept through South Africa (the hype has definitely died down though), America has been seeing the rise of pickleball. No, I don’t know what pickleball is either, but I guess I’m going to find out thanks to The Dink. A new comedy film directed by Josh Greenbaum (Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar) and produced by Ben Stiller, The Dink stars Jake Johnson as Dusty “The Hammer” Boyd, a former tennis prodigy who was once on the cusp of greatness but is now a washed-up kids tennis coach at his father Chuck’s (Ed Harris) suburban country club. When Dusty reaggravates an old injury, taking away his ability to play tennis, he is forced to resort to “pickleball”, the new sport craze his father is pushing at his club, in the name of rehab. And hey, maybe this will also actually get him that fatherly approval he so desperately wanted. Much to Dusty’ surprise – thanks in part to his enchanting new partner, Candace (Mary Steenburgen) – he finds himself actually enjoying the game, and finally able to face the ghosts of his past athletic failures, including his childhood nemesis, tennis superstar Andy Roddick.
72 Hours
24 July 2026 – Netflix
No, this is not a sequel of the classic Eddie Murphy/Nick Nolte action-comedy 48 Hours, but it does have a fast-talking leading man and both action and comedy. Director Tim Story is teaming up with Ride Along star Kevin Hart once again, as Hart plays Joe, a forty-year-old executive whose flagging life gets some unexpected pep when he is accidentally added to a group chat by strangers. Said strangers are a group of hard partying twenty-somethings (Marcello Hernández, Mason Gooding, Kam Patterson, Ben Marshall) planning a wild three-day bachelor party. When Joe actually accepts the invite and turns up, the youngsters take him under their wing to show him how the kids party these days… if he can keep up! Things get complicated though when Joe is inadvertently suspected of being an undercover narc, resulting in him and his party bros having a dangerous run-in with several colorful criminals.
The Devil’s Mouth
29 July 2026 – Prime Video
I’ve been fortunate enough to holiday in Thailand and I can tell you that not only is it incredibly beautiful, but it is also very safe. Of course, I wasn’t taking cave sharks into consideration! The Devil’s Mouth is a new horror-thriller from director Jeff Wadlow and stars Kathryn Newton, Lana Condor, Gavin Casalegno, and Nico Hiraga as five college friends on holiday in the Southeast-Asian country for one last adventure before life in the real world begins. The group signs up for a guided swim through a remote cave system, known as The Devil’s Mouth (somehow, not a red flag?!), but their quest for fun soon turns into a desperate, deadly fight for survival when they become trapped in the submerged caves and discover a dangerous, bloodthirsty shark that starts to pick them off one by one. Wadlow may have had his directorial breakout with comic book adaptation Kick-Ass 2 but he has been steadily becoming a horror specialist over the last few years with the likes of Truth or Dare, Fantasy Island, and Imaginary. Given his previous efforts, expect to at least get some solid jumps out of this one.
