SERIES
Mating Season S1
22 May 2026 – Netflix
If you were a fan of Big Mouth’s flavour of R-rated animated sexual shenanigans, then Mating Season will probably be right up your… *cough*… alley. Created by Mark Levin, Jennifer Flackett, Andrew Goldberg, and Nick Kroll – the same group behind the aforementioned Emmy-nominated Big Mouth, Mating Season is a new adult animated comedy series love, sex, relationships, and the universal need to find a partner. Except this one is about animals, such as bears, raccoons, deer, foxes, and a host of other horny, lovable forest critters who all have the uncontrollable urge to perpetuate their species. Just like he did on Big Mouth, Kroll lends his voice talents once again, and he’s joined this time by Zach Woods, June Diane Raphael, Sabrina Jaleees, and more.
Spider-Noir S1
27 May 2026 – Prime Video
When Nicolas Cage was cast to voice Spider-Man Noir in the brilliant Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse animated feature film, it was just a bit of fun casting for the veteran actor, who is a well-known comic book geek. Seeing as “Ben Reilly” was just one of the film’s side characters, it came as a big surprise then when it was announced that Cage would be bringing the character to live in live-action as well. Spider-Noir is that new live-action series which will be debuting on Prime Video next week – and as a treat you will have the option of watching it in either “Authentic Black & White” or “True-Hue Full Color”, as can be seen in the dual trailers above. Set in an alternate universe 1930s New York (hence the black and white), Spider-Noir follows Cage’s Reilly, “a seasoned, down on his luck private investigator still struggling to come to terms with a personal tragedy, who gets hired by a femme fatale to find a missing person and finds himself drawn into a web of intrigue. Luckily, Ben has some webs of his own, as he is secretly the city’s one and only superhero. Lamorne Morris, Li Jun Li, Karen Rodriguez, Abraham Popoola, Jack Huston, and Brendan Gleeson co-star.
A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder S2
27 May 2026 – Netflix
As somebody who grew up reading the adventures of the Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew, and other teenage sleuths, it’s quite an oversight on my part that I still haven’t seen A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder. Adapted from British novelist Holly Jackson’s trilogy of YA crime mystery books, the first season introduced viewers to Emma Myers’ Pippa “Pip” Fitz-Amobi, a student in the fictional British town of Little Kilton, Buckinghamshire. When Andie Bell, a popular student at Pip’s school is murdered, Pip was not satisfied with the subsequent police investigation and its very convenient findings and took matters into her own hands to uncover the truth. And now, after the events of the first season and the subsequent fallout of Pip’s meddling, she’s trying her best to stay away from any more investigations. But when somebody tied to Andie’s case suddenly disappears, Pip is once again drawn into a race against time and a mystery she has to solve!
Deli Boys S2
28 May 2026 – Disney+
In the immortal words of the Notorious B.I.G., “mo money mo problems”. That’s what the Dar brothers discovered during the first season of crime comedy series Deli Boys when the pampered Pakistan-American siblings uncovered that their late father had actually behind a vast criminal empire which they knew nothing about but now had to run. Despite being in way over their heads, Mir (Asif Ali) and Raj (Saagar Shaikhand), with the help of their father’s old confidante Lucky (Poorna Jagannathan), somehow managed to not only keep the business afloat but actually turned a profit. But with their rise to the top, they’ve just drawn the attention of several other big underworld players, most notably Max Sugar (Fred Armisen), a ruthless money-laundering casino king who would like nothing more than muscling in on the Dar’s territory. Complicating matters greatly is the fact that Lucky and Max clearly have some very messy feelings for each other.
MOVIES
Ladies First
22 May 2026 – Netflix
Full disclosure: Up until about a day ago, I had never even heard of this movie, which is odd given that it stars Rosumand Pike and Sacha Baron Cohen and actually has an intriguing premise. But then again, I am a man, and maybe all the PR just went to the… ladies first! Ha!…. Sigh… Aaaaanyway, Ladies First is a new comedy directed by Thea Sharrock (Me Before You, Wicked Little Letters) and is a semi-remake of 2018 French film I Am Not an Easy Man. Baron Cohen stars as Damien Sachs, a wealthy exec at a major advertising firm who seemingly has it all: money, power, a non-stop stream of casual flings with women, and a massively punchable face because he’s such a chauvinistic arsehole. The only thing missing is the CEO title, but that will be rectified shortly as he is already tapped for the role. That is until a sudden injury knocks him out cold and Damien somehow wakes up in a parallel world where the gender tables have been flipped. Here it’s women who dominate all aspects of life, expecting men to be subservient seconds. Damien’s old company is still there, but now occupying his office is Alex Fox (Rosamund Pike) who only knew as a meek woman to order around and talk over, but is now very much a fierce and fearless boss. And wanting his life back, Damien and Alex go head-to-head with calamitous results… well, as soon as he can get over all the catcalling he’s getting!
RENTALS/PURCHASES
The following movies have recently become available for digital purchase/rental:
Speed Racer
Purchase: Apple TV – R160 / Google Play – R175
Rental: Apple TV – R35 / Google Play – R35
No, this is not a mistake. And no, there isn’t a new Speed Racer movie coming out. Sadly. Released back in 2008, this was the Wachowski siblings’ big live-action adaptation of the beloved 1960s anime of the same name. And it was spectacular! There was just one problem: it bombed badly at the box office, resulting in an estimated $100 million loss for Warner Bros. With that, the movie was kind of relegated to little-seen cult status. However, it was recently announced that WB is finally releasing it in 4K digital and Blu-ray for the very first time (while some countries even got an IMAX release to go with it!). And if you know anything about this movie, it’s that it is a visual explosion of colour and action as the Wachowskis unashamedly translated the original anime’s over the top stylings, meaning that experiencing it in the highest definition possible will make for one heck of an experience! And now you can as it release on VOD rental just two days ago!
