Umthetho S1
14 August 2026 – Netflix
If Netflix’s The Polygamist left you craving for more South African thrillers, maybe have a look at Umthetho. Although admittedly not as increasingly unhinged as Netflix’s breakout telenovela (really, what is?!), Umthetho still has some of the right ingredients to keep you hooked. Inspired by the Brazilian hit series Brotherhood, this gritty seven-episode crime drama follows idealistic public prosecutor Mbali Dlamini as she is forced to become a double agent inside her imprisoned brother’s ruthless syndicate.
Lion
20 August 2026 – Disney+
Director Jon Favreau definitely learned a thing or two about big cats when he helmed Disney’s “live-action” adaptation of The Lion King, and he’s partnering with producer Mike Gunton for brand new documentary series Lion. Filmed over the course of four years, this is the extraordinary true story of a lion cub named Kio on his epic journey to become a king. This sweeping saga of family, hope and courage follows Kio as he grows from a vulnerable cub into a powerful leader. Along the way, he faces loss, exile and fierce rivals in a fight to survive. The four-episode docuseries combines cinematic storytelling with groundbreaking documentary filmmaking as it captures the complete coming-of-age story of a lion.
Outer Banks S5

Despite a friend’s insistence that it is way better than the trashy teen drama I thought it was based on the first trailers, I still have not seen a single episode of Outer Banks. Netflix’s action-adventure drama series must have done something right though, as it dodged the streamer’s infamous two season curse and has been going strong for a while now. But all good things must come to an end, and thus next week sees the debut of Outer Banks’ fifth and final season. This final out “finds the Pogues at their absolute breaking point following the tragic loss of JJ in Morocco. Stranded far from home and mourning the heart of their crew, they’ve lost the Blue Crown and continue to face a gauntlet of familiar threats. With Chandler Groff still at large, Dalia and the Corsairs closing in, and the Kooks ensuring the Pogues have no home to return to, John B, Sarah, Kiara, Pope, and Cleo must rely on their scrappy instincts—and an uneasy alliance with Rafe—to keep from falling apart for good. Don’t Say Good Luck

Adam Sandler has had a deal with Netflix for a number of years now, seemingly just churning out films for the American funnyman. And now it’s his daughter’s turn. Don’t Say Good Luck luckily appears to have far fewer jokes about middle-aged man-children being hit in their testicles. Written and directed by Julia Hart (Stargirl, Hollywood Stargirl), the coming-of-age dramedy stars Sunny Sandler as Sophie, a theater kid preparing for her long-awaited leading role in her high school musical of Waitress when suddenly family drama overtakes the drama on stage. Max Greenfield and Melanie Lynskey play Sophie’s parents, while Steve Buscemi plays her grandfather.
Camp Rock 3
14 August 2026 – Disney+
It’s been 16 years since Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam, and it turns out that film’s tagline was a lie! Yes, Camp Rockers, the Jonas Brothers are back and returning to where it all started. Joined by previous franchise performers Demi Lovato and Maria Canals-Barrera, the long-gestating threequel follows now-all-grown-up superstar band Connect 3as their plans for a major reunion tour gets derailed when they unexpectedly lose their opening act. There’s only thing to do in such a situation, of course: return to their beloved Camp Rock to discover the next big thing! As a whole new generation of musical campers vie for the chance to open for their favorite band, tensions rise and friendships are tested, leading to unexpected alliances, revelations, and romances.
Novak Djokovic: The Wolf in Winter

Disclosure Day

Disclosure Day has easily been one of the most polarizing movie releases of this year. With Steven Spielberg back directing a movie about aliens on Earth, supported by an absolutely stellar cast, expectations for this thriller were sky high. Alas, many walked out of the cinema feeling rather annoyed. While Sam’s 7.5/10 review has its criticisms – mainly how it has an “oddly subdued, oddly indistinct” identity – it is still one of the more favourable takes out there, recognizing the film’s gorgeous cinematography, breathless action, and top-notch performances. If you missed the film in cinemas but also want to join in the debate about whether it’s actually any good or not (in my opinion, the masterclass of a finale on its own is worth the price of admission), well you’re in luck as Disclosure Day is now available for digital purchase with rental options sure to follow shortly
Tuner
Purchase: Apple TV – R150
Looking for something more grounded though? Then maybe try out Tuner (no, Laura Kelly, not like the fish!). This crime thriller stars up and coming British actor Leo Woodall as Niki White, a former child prodigy who saw his future as a pianist ruined by an auditory disease that left him with hearing too sensitive to play. Now using that same acute hearing as a piano tuner, Niki discovers that his meticulous skills also translate to an unexpected aptitude for cracking safes. While this newfound craft brings Niki all the money he needs, it doesn’t take long before the situation evolves into something potentially deadly. Tuner was written and directed by Daniel Roher, the Oscar winning director of feature film documentary Navalny.
