Just like last week, this Friday there are two new movies joining the cinema release mix. And seeing as it’s Thanksgiving weekend in the United States, they’re both heavyweights. One is Disney’s next grand animated musical fantasy, out to coincide with the House of Mouse’s 100th anniversary. The other is an epic historical biopic under the direction of Ridley Scott.

Attempting to repeat the success of Frozen and Encanto in recent years, Wish is Walt Disney Animation Studios in full-blown musical fantasy mode. In the island Kingdom of Rosas, 17-year-old Asha (voiced by Ariana DeBose) learns a dark truth about the island’s much loved ruler, King Magnifico (Chris Pine). Disagreeing with how the powerful magic caster treats the islanders’ wishes, Asha accidentally summons an actual star, enraging Magnifico and triggering a chain of events that will change Rosas forever.

Legendary genre director Ridley Scott reunites with one of his Gladiator stars, Joaquin Phoenix for Napoleon, a two-and-a-half-hour epic biopic that explores the rise and fall of brilliant military commander Napoleon Bonaparte, who would claim the title of French Emperor in the early 19th Century. Phoenix is joined by Vanessa Kirby, who plays Josephine, Napoleon’s one true love, with whom he shared a volatile relationship. Look forward to intense, highly strategic and practical battle scenes.
