Happy almost Ahsoka month! Here’s your early heads up as to what is coming to Disney+ in South Africa this August, which kicks off next Tuesday.

Along with our top picks of the streamer’s new additions below, two fan-favourite series are returning as well. Season 3 of murder mystery comedy Only Murders in the Building arrives on 8 August, with two episodes at launch, and then a new episode every week thereafter. Then there’s High School Musical: The Musical: The Series (that cumbersome title is not a typo, I promise), which is back for its fourth, and final, season on 9 August. All eight episodes drop on the same day.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3 (Film)

Missed it on the big screen when it hit cinemas back in May? Now’s your chance to catch the excellent and emotional Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 at home. It’s the end of an era for Marvel’s band of space misfits (played by Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff and Vin Diesel), who must rally together to save teammate Rocket (Bradley Cooper) from the High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji), a cruel and unhinged genius from Rocket’s past. Warning: You will cry.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 comes to Disney+ on 2 August.

Star Wars: Ahsoka (Limited series)

After playing the former Jedi Knight in The Mandalorian, Rosario Dawson returns as the live-action version of Ahsoka Tano in this eight-episode limited series. Set after the fall of the Empire, Ahsoka investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy. These threats include heir to the Empire, Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) and the late Ray Stevenson’s Baylan Skoll, a former Jedi. Fortunately, Ahsoka has allies like her ex apprentice Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) and pilot general Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead).

Starting 23 August, Ahsoka premieres with two episodes at launch, and then enjoys a new episode every Wednesday until the finale on 4 October.

West Side Story (Film)

West Side Story is Steven Spielberg’s highly acclaimed 2021 take on the stage production, a musical romance based on William Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet. West Side Story looks at the star-crossed romance of Tony (Ansel Elgort) and Maria (Rachel Zegler) against the backdrop of gang violence and ethnic rivalries in 1950s New York City. At the 94th Academy Awards, Spielberg’s West Side Story received seven nominations, winning one – Best Supporting Actress for Ariana DeBose.

West Side Story comes to Disney+ on 23 August.

A Murder at the End of the World (Limited Series)

Capping off the month is a brand-new whodunnit co-created by and co-starring Brit Marling. A Murder at the End of the World is led by up-and-coming Emma Corrin, who plays a Gen Z amateur sleuth and tech-savvy hacker named Darby Hart. Invited to a remote retreat by a reclusive billionaire (Clive Owen), Darby must use all her skills to catch a killer when one of the other guests is found dead.

The seven-episode A Murder at the End of the World premieres on 29 August with two episodes, followed by weekly single additions.
