Celebrating the amazing cosplay of Comic Con Africa 2025

Whether you and your friends (or family) are kitted out in hired costumes, or you’re someone who is often still hand-crafting your look ten minutes before leaving for the event, Comic Con Africa is always a popular stage for celebrating local cosplay of all levels.

Apart for just wandering around in dress-up, and being appreciated by other attendees and exhibitors, this year there were multiple competitions for cosplayers to enter, including twice daily casual cosplay contests on the Main Stage (one sponsored by AXE); a themed Telkom VS Gaming Next Gen Squad Cosplay Competition; and the big daddy of the pop culture celebration: the Comic Con Africa Championship of Cosplay, a prestigious – and gruelling for cosplayers – contest where the overall winner walks away with a cheque for R10 000, and entry into the Cosplay Central Crown Championships of Cosplay 2026, which will be coming to MCM London Comic Con in May next year.

No pressure. South Africa has participated in five global finals to date, competing against different countries’ top cosplay representatives. During that period, we’ve claimed a top three spot four times.

That’s looking ahead, though. Right now, we want to be in the moment and celebrate all the cosplayers at CCA 2025, including the various Championship of Cosplay category winners below. Well done to everyone, whether you placed or not. Hopefully you had fun, and you can rest assured that your hard work brought joy to everyone. The same goes to anyone who costumed up for the four days of CCA 2025. Thank you.
