May on Disney+ is leaning to the dark side, with new Star Wars entertainment (unofficial holiday May the 4th is just past) and true crime series dominating. To lighten things up, though, we have Stanley Tucci jaunting through Italy, and the second season return of those Mormon Wives with their Secret Lives on 15 May. Ryan Reynolds’s Welcome to Wrexham is also back with its S4 on 16 May.
Along with these shows, below you’ll find our new streaming picks for the month.
A Complete Unknown (Film)
Technically A Complete Unknown, the massively acclaimed and Oscar nominated biopic of Bob Dylan, made its local Disney+ debut at the very end of April, but it absolutely deserves a spot on this shortlist. Logan and Walk The Line’s James Mangold directs Timothée Chalamet (who does all his own singing and instrument playing) as folk music legend Dylan, and the film tracks his professional emergence, culminating in his rule-breaking performance at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965.

Good American Family (Limited Series)
Something else that has joined Disney+ recently, and deserves a shoutout, is limited series Good American Family, which you can now watch in its eight episode entirety. Based on the bizarre real-life court case that made tabloid headlines, the drama is inspired by multiple perspectives, threats, interpretations, and accusations as a Midwestern couple adopts a girl with a rare form of dwarfism, and then abandons her, claiming she’s not even a child. Ellen Pompeo, Mark Duplass, and Imogen Faith Reid star.
Binge all of Good American Family now.
In addition to dramatisation Good American Family, Disney+ has new true crime documentaries on offer like Devil in the Family: The Fall of Ruby Franke, Scamanda, How I Escaped My Cult and The Fox Hollow Murders: Playground of a Serial Killer.
Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld (Animated Series)
May the 4th always means new Star Wars on Disney+ in some form or another. In 2025, the Tales series of animated shorts expanded with Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld, following Tales of the Jedi and Tales of the Empire in previous years. Like its predecessors, Underworld is split into two arcs, this time focused on franchise-favourite bounty hunters: Asajj Ventress (voiced by Nika Futterman) and Cad Bane (Corey Burton).
Enjoy the six all-new Tales of the Underworld shorts now.
As a side note, if you need more Star Wars in your life, the second and final season of Rogue One prequel Andor will wrap in May. Away from the Galaxy Far, Far Away, but keeping things sci-fi, new episodes of Doctor Who are currently dropping weekly too.
Tucci in Italy (Travel Documentary Series)
Here’s one for the foodies, and anyone who believes that cuisine is a fantastic way to learn more about different cultures. National Geographic series Tucci in Italy follows actor Stanley Tucci as he travels across Italy’s stunning landscapes, exploring the deep connections between food, culture and history, and commenting with his signature dry wit. Expect encounters with locals, chefs, artisans—and even cowboys—and plenty of hidden culinary gems.
Watch all five episodes of Tucci in Italy from 19 May.
