Before we even pick out our recommendations for the month on Disney+, here are a few notable mentions.
Six-part Marvel series Ironheart is ready for binging, with all episodes available from 2 July. Then there’s seven new episodes of the award-winning school comedy-drama Abbott Elementary S4, also available as of 2 July. Finally, you can watch something homegrown in the form of documentary shorts series People and Places. In the episode The Academy, young Capetonian Azile, who is part of a sports upliftment programme, prepares for a yacht race around Robben Island. Watch from 9 July.
P.S. Looking ahead to August, Disney+ will be debuting the first ever Alien series, Alien: Earth, along with four-episode animated series Eyes of Wakanda, set in the Afro-futurist kingdom of Black Panther.
Jaws @ 50: The Definitive Inside Story (Documentary Film)
July is Shark Month, and included among National Geographic’s glut of Sharkfest offerings is Jaws @ 50: The Definitive Inside Story, an officially sanctioned look at the making of the shark attack movie that’s considered the first Summer Blockbuster. We love a good behind-the-scenes deep dive and along with interviewing the film’s director Steven Spielberg for insights into the difficult shooting, the documentary explores how the movie impacted shark conservation for decades.
Watch Jaws @ 50: The Definitive Inside Story from 11 July.
Mickey Mouse Clubhouse+ (Children’s series)
Just school holiday things. Along with popular Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir Season 6 streaming from 2 July, this month sees the debut of animated series Mickey Mouse Clubhouse+, a revival of 2006’s Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. Speaking specially to preschoolers, this music-filled show has an interactive element, as the likes of Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy, and Pluto call on young fans at home to help out in various situations, developing their problem-solving skills in the process.
Mickey Mouse Clubhouse+ is streaming from 22 July.
Something Beautiful (Musical Film)
Remember that time Disney+ scored Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour for home viewing? Well, they’ve done it again with pop opera experience Something Beautiful, from Miley Cyrus. Having just screened in cinemas for one night only, this high concept release serves as a visual companion to Cyrus’s 2025 album of the same name, and features thirteen new songs.
Watch the one-hour Something Beautiful from 30 July.
