This February, Disney+ is ensuring subscribers have access to a glut of beloved romantic comedies, like Notting Hill, My Best Friend’s Wedding, The Holiday, and 10 Things I Hate About You. However, it’s not just about fan-favourites. There’s fresh entertainment on the menu too, and you’ll find our recommended series, movies and specials below.
As a side note, if you missed it, musical biopic Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere made its surprise debut on the streamer at the end of January.
The Muppet Show (Special)
In celebration of the iconic original variety series turning 50, The Muppet Show is back with a brand-new special event. Joining the puppet likes of Kermit, Miss Piggy and the other Muppets are Sabrina Carpenter, Maya Rudolph and Seth Rogen for a mix of music and comedy. The idea is that if this once-off special is a hit, there will be a full revival of the series pioneered by Jim Henson back in the 70s.
Watch The Muppet Show from 4 February.
Ella McKay (Film)
The star-packed cast is the big drawcard of new comedy drama Ella McKay. Emma Mackey stars as the title character, a woman who ends up as the youngest ever governor of a state. As it turns out, her work has nothing on the challenges of her personal life. Also starring are Jamie Lee Curtis, Woody Harrelson, Jack Lowden, Kumail Nanjiani, Ayo Edebiri, Rebecca Hall, and Albert Brooks. The film is the first directed by Terms of Endearment and Broadcast News’s James L. Brooks in 15 years.
Watch Ella McKay from 5 February.
Super Bowl LX, with Bad Bunny Half Time Show (Sporting Event)
If you needed a reminder, Disney+ provides South Africans with access to two 24-hour linear ESPN channels. That means this coming month, subscribers can watch the Super Bowl live! This year, the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots are facing off in the annual NFL championship game.
For those who are more interested in pop culture than sportsball, the 2026 Super Bowl includes a halftime show by Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny, which kicks off at 03:00 SA Time on 9 February.
Paradise S2 (Series)
Okay, if you didn’t watch Season 1 of mystery thriller Paradise, stop reading now, because Season 2 is here and all communications about the show are full of spoilers for S1. While the social fabric frays in the community of Paradise, special agent Xavier Collins (Sterling K. Brown) sets out to find his wife Teri. Shailene Woodley and Thomas Doherty join the line-up as the universe of this breakout show expands.
Watch Paradise S2 from 23 February. The season launches with 3 episodes, and will consist of 8 parts.
Scrubs (Series)
This one wasn’t on the newsletter we received from Disney+ South Africa, but given its launch in sister regions like the UK and Australia, it seems likely that the month will end with the highly-anticipated revival of wacky medical sitcom Scrubs. All the familiar faces are back as doctors JD (Zach Braff) and Turk (Donald Faison) scrub in together for the first time in a long time at Sacred Heart, where they’re overseeing a new set of interns. Also returning are Sarah Chalke as Elliot, Judy Reyes as Carla and John C McGinley as Dr Cox.
Scrubs is back on 26 February with a two-episode premiere.
In the Blink of an Eye (Film)
Ending the month on a bittersweet note is science-fiction drama In the Blink of an Eye, which made its debut at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, where it picked up an award for its depiction of STEM. Kate McKinnon, Rashida Jones, and Daveed Diggs star in a film that jumps between humanity’s past, present and future. Interestingly, Pixar veteran Andrew Stanton, who helmed the likes of WALL-E, Finding Nemo and live-action John Carter, is in the director’s chair for this one.
Watch In The Blink of an Eye from 27 February.
