Three new movies are making their debut at South African cinemas this week. They’re not alone, though. Last week’s Ster Kinekor exclusive Shelter, starring Jason Statham, is expanding to Nu Metro cinemas, there’s a Met Opera production of Bellini’s I Puritani, and seeing as it’s Valentine’s month. Fifty Shades of Grey is making its Throwback return at Ster Kinekors across the country.

Comedy drama Is This Thing On is the latest release from actor-turned-filmmaker Bradley Cooper, who was previously responsible for Maestro and A Star is Born. Witty and heartfelt, this acclaimed relationship study explores the quietly unravelling marriage of longtime couple Alex (Will Arnett) and Tess (Laura Dern). Alex finds new purpose in the New York comedy scene while Tess confronts the sacrifices she made for their family, all while they navigate co-parenting, identity, and whether love can take a new form.

Finally, it’s over. The Strangers – Chapter 3 caps the reboot trilogy that filmmaker Renny Harlin filmed back-to-back-to-back in 2022. Promising to be the home invasion horror series’ “most brutal chapter,” heroine Maya (Madelaine Petsch), the only survivor of the mysterious masked Strangers, finds that the only way out of the nightmare…is in, joining the ranks of her tormentors. This battle for survival is different though, as secrets emerge and revenge plays out.

Kate Beckinsale has clearly been on a C-grade action kick lately because here she is starring in another explosive thriller: Wildcat. She plays the former leader of a British black ops team forced to reunite when her eight-year-old daughter is kidnapped by gangsters. To get her child back, the team will need to pull off an impossible heist in London, framing a rival crime lord n the process. Some other recognisable faces in the cast include Lewis Tan, Alice Krige and Charles Dance.
