What’s hitting cinema screens in South Africa this Friday? Well, as the holiday season starts to surface from hibernation Mariah Carey-style, the big names are coming out to play. In addition, you can also check out Bollywood release De De Pyaar De 2; the Throwback return of The Rocky Horror Picture Show; K-Pop concert film j-hope Tour ‘HOPE ON THE STAGE’ THE MOVIE; and masterclass Go Viral on how to achieve social media success, presented by Wian Van Den Berg (AKA Wian the Magician).
It’s been nine years since the last Now You See Me released, but here we are for a third film in the twisty magician heist series. Now You See Me: Now You Don’t sees the original Four Horsemen (Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, Isla Fisher) forced to reunite, and team up with a new generation of illusionists (Justice Smith, Dominic Sessa, Ariana Greenblatt). This to steal from, and expose, Veronika Vanderberg (Rosamund Pike), whose powerful South African diamond business launders money for the world’s worst people. Zombieland and Uncharted’s Ruben Fleischer directs.
Look out for our Now You See Me: Now You Don’t review tomorrow.
Despite bringing together Scott Pilgrim, Baby Driver and Shaun of the Dead filmmaker Edgar Wright and leading man Glenn Powell for a more faithful (and topical) adaptation of Stephen King’s The Running Man, the film is oddly releasing locally with very little promotion. In a dystopian near-future, everyman Ben Richards, desperate for money to save his sick daughter, signs up for the nation’s favourite reality show. All he needs do is survive 30 days while being hunted by assassins. Also with William H. Macy, Lee Pace, Emilia Jones, Michael Cera and Josh Brolin.
Now we’re getting to the more niche stuff. Horror comedy Coyotes should appeal to people who enjoyed the likes of Cocaine Bear. Justin Long and Kate Bosworth star in this tale of a family forced to fight for their survival when a pack of coyotes trap them in their isolated Hollywood Hills home.
Parents probably already know that animated adventure A Paw Patrol Christmas is out this week. In this 44-minute festive special, when Santa Claus comes down with a cold, Christmas is essentially cancelled in Adventure Bay, and Mayor Humdinger goes to the North Pole to take all the gifts for himself. Rubble and the rest of the PAW Patrol must leap into action to save the holiday! Paired with the special is a bonus 11-minute episode of the show: A Jr. Patrollers’ Christmas.
